⚗️ Catalyst Mixing Guide (5% & 10%)
For every 1 pint (16 fl oz) of basecoat, add 0.8 fl oz (24 g) catalyst for 5% or 1.6 fl oz (47 g) for 10%.
For 1 quart (32 fl oz), mix 1.6 fl oz (47 g) at 5% or 3.2 fl oz (95 g) at 10%.
For 1 gallon (128 fl oz), use 6.4 fl oz (190 g) at 5% or 12.8 fl oz (379 g) at 10%.
For 5 gallons (640 fl oz), add 1 quart (950 g) at 5% or 2 quarts (1.9 kg) at 10%.

Ideal For:

  • Finishers looking for a tintable waterborne primer that can now be pigmented to match the color of your topcoat — saving time and improving color uniformity.

  • General-purpose interior wood finishing on all wood species and MDF.

  • MDF items and closed-pore systems needing strong hiding and insulation.

  • Shops that want 1K ease with the option to catalyze (2K) for tougher stain blocking on tannin-heavy woods like oak and ash.

💙 Why Finishers Love It:

  • New tintable formula: unlike older primers, YL M641 can be pigmented with Renner colorants to achieve the same base tone as your topcoat — ideal for achieving perfect coverage and color depth.

  • High hiding & insulating power for fast, even coverage.

  • Flexible workflow: use straight from the can or catalyze 2–10% with YC M404 for extra durability.

  • Excellent sandability and great vertical hold up to 180 µm (~7 mils wet).

  • Low odor, low VOC, and easy cleanup with water.

🎨 Finish Options:

  • M641/NTR Neutral (tintable base)

  • Compatible as a primer under waterborne interior topcoats

🛠 Spray Equipment Guide:

  • Methods: Conventional, Airmix, Airless, Electrostatic (equipment must be suitable for waterborne)

  • Conventional:

    • Thinning: ~4–6 % water

    • Nozzle: 2.0–2.2 mm

    • Atomizing Air: 3–4 bar (≈ 43.5–58.0 psi)

  • Airmix:

    • Tip: 0.011 in (≈ 0.28 mm)

    • Assist Air: 0–2 bar (≈ 0–29.0 psi)

    • Fluid Pressure: 80–110 bar (≈ 1160.3–1595.4 psi)

  • Airless:

    • Tip: 0.011 in (≈ 0.28 mm)

    • Fluid Pressure: 120–150 bar (≈ 1740.5–2175.6 psi)

  • Pro tips: Pre-atomizers/pre-heaters (product 30–40 °C / 86.0–104.0 °F) help consistency; avoid heavy wet-on-wet passes; ventilate booths to renew full air volume every 15–20 min.

🌡 Handling & Storage:

  • Application temp (product, substrate, environment): ≥ 15 °C (59.0 °F)

  • Shelf life: 18 months when stored between 5–35 °C (41.0–95.0 °F)

  • Cleanup: Water immediately after use; for dried film, soak with AY M460 overnight, then rinse with water

  • Waste: Dispose of booth water/washings per local regs; do not discharge to sewer

  • Substrate prep: Clean; for MDF, use sharp tools and sand to P220–P240 to minimize fiber raise

  • Tannin/extractive woods: For oak/acacia/ash, use ≥ 4% YC M404 hardener in the primer to reduce staining

How to complete your coating process

1. SANDING

Sand bare wood or existing coating with 220-240P. If rifinishing, make sure the surface is clean and degreased.

2. APPLICATION

Apply 4-5 wet mils of primer YL M643/C02. Use 5 to 10% of hardener (10-12oz per gal) when applying on tannin-rich or resinous wood, or especially for refinish jobs.

3. DRYING TIME

At least 4-6 hours.
